How To Get From JFK, EWR And LGA To Metlife Stadium On The Day Of The FIFA World Cup Final 2026
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final will take place on MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA on 19 July 2026. It's the most watched sporting event in the world, playing in the most complicated metropolitan traffic and transportation in the United States. The journey to get there should not be an after-thought.
John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Newark Liberty International (EWR) and LaGuardia (LGA) are the three commercial airports in the New York metro area. The experiences of the fans whilst making the journey to each is very different from distance to traffic to usefulness of public transport to chaos among 80,000 fans all trying to get to the same place at the same time.
In this guide, you will learn everything you need to know about each airport, the reality of what travelling to and from each airport looks like on Final day and why it's best to book a private transfer with Noble Transfer for this journey.
The Three Airports
The Nearest Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) Is Located 20 Km Away
This is important, as Newark is located 100% within New Jersey. Unlike the other two airports, there's no crossing of the Hudson River as MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford, also in New Jersey. No Lincoln Tunnel. No Holland Tunnel. No bottleneck.
It takes about 13 miles by road from EWR to MetLife Stadium. Normally it's a 20-28 minute drive by the NJ Turnpike. When planning a private transfer for World Cup Final day, it is best to book a private transfer for 35-55 minutes to be comfortable, as the road management measures will be in place and the number of fans will start to increase from midday.
Yes, NJ Transit has a train from Newark Airport Station to Secaucus Junction, but the trip is a transfer and usually takes about 60 minutes in total – not to mention the increased number of passengers that are expected on Final day. After flying across the globe with suitcases, it's not ideal to be greeted by a crowded train station.

To MetLife: ~13 miles away
The transfer time for private use (Final day): 35-55 minutes.
Cross State Crossing needed: No
Ideal for: passengers coming from Europe or other locations with the option to fly to a different airport to connect to their flight to the best for destination.
The Main International Gateway Is John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
With the most long-haul international arrivals in New York, JFK will be the destination of most of the fans from Europe, South America, Africa and Asia who will be making their way to the Final. But, the truth is that JFK is the most logistical of the three airports to get to MetLife.
It takes about 24-32 miles by road, depending on the route, to cross into Manhattan or to go around Manhattan, then into New Jersey via the Lincoln Tunnel or the George Washington Bridge. If there is light traffic, this trip will take about 45-60 minutes. Normally 75-90 minutes during a normal busy day. On World Cup Final Day, travelers can expect 90 to 2 hours of travel time due to the congestion in the tunnels, road closures and movement of fans throughout the metro area, and should plan accordingly.
The route from JFK to MetLife stadium is by AirTrain to Jamaica Station, either Long Island Rail Road or subway to Penn Station or Port Authority and then NJ Transit to the stadium. The entire trip requires 90-150 minutes and requires several transfers as well as handling luggage. This will be one that is going to be under a lot of pressure for the Final.
A direct private transfer from JFK circumvents all of the above. Your driver will know of the routes, the real-time traffic updates and will know how to take the route that will take you to the stadium without the added stress of trying to find your way around the unfamiliar transit system in an unfamiliar city.

MetLife is ~24-32 miles away.
Private transfer time (Final day): 75 - 110 minutes
Crossing of states needed: Yes (tunnel or bridge)
Most suitable for: International fans — most long haul routes finish here.
The Middle Ground Is The Name Of The Laguardia Airport (LGA)
LaGuardia is located in the borough of Queens, New York, about 19-21 miles away from MetLife Stadium. It too like JFK, has to cross into New Jersey through tunnel or bridge, to make it more complicated. LaGuardia will more likely be used by domestic passengers who are transiting through a hub city, as opposed to passengers flying in from outside the United States as JFK is.
Normally, it takes about 40 to 55 minutes to cover the distance between LGA and MetLife. Allow 60 - 90 minutes on Final day. There is no direct rail service from LaGuardia — a shuttle bus runs to the subway which has to be connected to a rail line into New Jersey. On an average day it takes more than 90 minutes to make the entire trip by public transportation.
If you're flying in domestic flights from other World Cup host cities such as Miami, Atlanta, Houston or Dallas, it's likely that you'll arrive at LGA. This means there is no hassle at the end as they can be transferred from the terminal directly to the stadium or hotel.

MetLife is ~19-21 miles away.
Final day private transfer time: 1 hour - 1.5 hours
Trails with a crossing state requirement: Yes (tunnel or bridge)
Great for: Home fans in the U.S. who are plugged into the New York area.
Match-Day Traffic Is The Reason Why It Is So Important
A typical Tuesday in June, it's less than 30 minutes to get from EWR to MetLife Stadium. The same is not true on World Cup Final day - 19 July 2026.
The stadium at MetLife is able to accommodate more than 80,000 people. The World Cup Final is a once-in-a-generation event, and will attract fans from around the globe, journalists, broadcasters, corporate guests and officials – all coming together at the same time, in the same place, in northern New Jersey. The New Jersey Turnpike and other roads around the turnpike will handle amounts of traffic that are more than they were designed for. Morning to late evening will be under pressure on the tunnels in and out of Manhattan.
Rideshare apps will know about this type of demand and will charge for it with the use of surge pricing. On a typical day, it is $60 to travel from EWR, but when tens of thousands of people are using the app to search for a car, it can become $200 or more. That's under the assumption that a car is available and driver supply doesn't necessarily equate to demand: On big event days, wait times at airport rideshare bays can be much longer.
Taxi drivers are also stuck in the same congestion as everyone else, and have an added disadvantage: they may not be as familiar with the roadways that crisscross the Meadowlands as to know where to take alternate paths if the main roads are clogged.
With a pre-booked private transfer with Noble Transfer, it is different. Your personal driver is set prior to your trip. The way is mapped out. Your driver monitors your flight and automatically adjusts pickup time in case of delays in customs and/or baggage retrieval. Upon exiting arrivals, the car is waiting – no app, no waiting, no negotiating a fare – it's one of the busiest transport days New York has seen.
Noble Transfer Fleet Options For New York Are In Demand
Noble Transfer has different types of cars to suit group sizes and preferences of travel for the World Cup Final.
Sedan: Best for individual or couples. Leather seats, AC and a professional driver who respects your time are all part of a premium sedan. Clean, comfortable and efficient if travelling by plane to the Final, either on your own or as a pair.
Executive / Business Class Sedan:
Executive class sedan for those who wish to have the Final day transfer as special as the event itself. That feeling of occasion this kind of match deserves and more leg room and higher quality materials.
SUV:
If you have three to six people, an SUV is a good choice. Space for luggage, comfortable seating for the entire group as well as the option to pick up several passengers from the same terminal/hotel. When you can share the cost between 4 or 5 people, an SUV transfer can be a more cost-effective option per person than individual rideshare cars – and without the risk of surge pricing!
Minibus / Van:
If you are travelling in a big group, such as a supporters club, corporate hospitality group or a family, then a private minibus will keep your group together. There is no coordination between several vehicles and no possibility of separation of the group of vehicles. All are on time, from the airport or from your Manhattan hotel.
Every Noble Transfer vehicle sent for dispatch has a professional, licensed driver that is familiar with the routes in the New York metro area as well as the ways to get to the MetLife Stadium. Meet and greet is available at arrivals, so your driver will be waiting in the terminal with a name board (especially after a long international flight, the last thing you want to do is figure out where the rideshare bay is, at JFK).
The Reason Why You Must Not Leave It So Late
The World Cup Final is not a typical match or game. It's the most significant 90 minutes in football and it's at the most prominent football stadium in America. A huge demand level for all things, tickets, hotel, flights and ground transport, which is uncommon in the market.
Slots for big occasions are transferred weeks ahead of time. This is already the case with Champions League finals and big boxing matches in London and Las Vegas and the World Cup Final in New York will follow suit — but on a larger scale. Toward July, Final day has a less number of chauffeur-driven vehicles still available. Late bookings (when available) are charged accordingly.
Noble Transfer highly recommends to book as early as possible your airport transfer for 19 July. Bookings can be made for the transfer to the match and the transfer from the match to your hotel (outbound) which can be booked together to provide a certainty for both the inbound and outbound transfers.
The booking process will take a few minutes. The sense of security it offers is through the trip.
